Armamar

Armamar appeared in the 9th century, from narrow valleys where spring medicinal waters and steep hills covered by vineyards that have become amazing landscapes.
It has a Mother Church in true Romanesque style, 1600s churches with rich gilded carved wood work and wood images of great aesthetic value, and even older the Roman milestone, the Celt Castro and the necropolis in a good state of conservation.

It was home of the Cistercian Order, it has signs of the architect Nasoni and noble families, ultimately, remains that remind and tell stories from the past of Armamar and the origin of its people.
The annual fairs have many visitors and are quite traditional, mainly during the months of June and December, during the Christmas Eve Fair.
From the St. Domingos de Fontelo viewpoint one can see the third highest mountain of Portugal, the Marão Mountain and the division of the towns of Lamego and Régua.

As far as the gastronomy is concerned, the roasted kid and the regional wine are inseparable specialities, but the juicy apple is without any doubt the main product in the lands of Armamar.
