Mesão Frio

The true region that produces Port Wine begins in Mes?o Frio, in the village of Barqueiros, where the Mar?o Mountain and the Douro prevail.
The scenery, the fortified village, the S. Francisco Monastery, currently the City Hall, some churches, a Sacred Art Museum, pillories and much more, are worthy a visit.

The most important local and annual festivity takes place in December and is known as the St. Andr? Fair. The main peculiarity is the representation at all levels of medieval times and happenings being this reason enough to visit it and stay overnight in the historic parish.
Besides that it is precisely in Mes?o Frio that one of the most important and beautiful Pousadas de Portugal is located, the Solar da Rede, an old Baroque style palace, where good taste prevails with the modern refinement combined with the refurbished historic and nature products in a perfect pairing with house wines. It is a privileged place for the delight of the views that admire the valleys and the River Douro.

Some of our cruises include in the program a meal or/and overnight stay at the Solar da Rede.
Local handicraft is also important and local gastronomy has to offer the roasted kid and pork, chestnuts and wine tart, lemon cake known as ?Donsumil? and a true Port Wine to finish the meal.
